Description

Nature’s Way sculpture by Kim Obrzut. The hawk taught us how to hunt.  The birds tell us when the storm nears. The lining up of the heavens tells us when to plant our crops. Hopis have survived a way of life by listening to nature. We survived as dry farmers. That is “Nature’s Way.”

She is in a kneeling position; in Hopi this is representative of tradition. Her over the shoulder dress (Manta) is textured to feel like wool and her downy eagle feather provides her with blessings and protection. This feather is called a “Paho” feather.

She has no face, which symbolizes the egalitarian society of the Hopi people. She represents a people, not an individual. The Hopi thought is: One Mind, one Body, and one Spirit.
